I've never had any real problems at work before, largely in part because I've always been somewhat of a mouse; after dealing with my prick prof. and having a tough-as-nails cafe manager Judy, I told the assistant manager 'he couldn’t suddenly change my 5 hour shift into an 11 hour shift for next day' and yes, I had an attitude with him. He told Mr. Boss-man, who called me into the back room to talk, and said things like 'why don’t you want to help the store?' and other nonsense. Ya know, any other day, I might have said 'ok, sure, I need the hours' but this weekend my brother and his wife are in town-I never get to see them-and I wouldn't let Mr. Boss-man push me into working more this weekend-and I hardly let him finish a sentence. I said 'I was quoting the handbook and he could ask me to would but couldn't make me work'. He got up set and told me "After tomorrow, I think you should start looking for another job" which is nice gay man talk for "I don't want you around, find somewhere else". To which I had nothing to say but "ok". Was I terrified because I really need this job? Yes. Was I scared my next application/resume was going to have a 2 and a half year gap because I was not re-hire-able at this job? You know it. And yes, I didn't need to have half the attitude I did with either of my managers, but I don’t take back a thing I said.

Later, the assistant manager whom I talked to first came to me and said ‘I had some attitude, my bad’ to which I responded ‘no, I had a tude, my bad’. He also told my café-co-worker ‘Mr. Boss-man was upset too, I don’t think he’s going to really do anything’ and later told me the same. What will happen when I show up to my regular shift tomorrow? I’d wager a guess at a big nothin’! After 2 and a half years, he’s not going to fire me over this, even if he hates all of café, I’ve been there a good 6 months longer than anyone else if café, and longer that all the people on book-floor, except for one (totally awesome) person. Also, a tiny mention of this to my awesome hard-ass café manager, and she’d tear Mr. Boss-man a new everything for trying to get rid of me. I really don’t think I need to mention it to her though, as awesome as it would be to hear her go off on him, I think I can actually handle this my mousy little self.

On lighter note, I’ll finally be moving out of my old, leaky, roach infested house to a much smaller but newer house a bit farther from UNT. The rent is about the same, which is cool.
